Washed Red Blood Cells

The Parasitology Core Facility provides washed RBCs for JHMRI affiliated investigators. The O+ Blood is collected from the hospital and washed at least two times with an incomplete RPMI 1640 medium. The washed red blood cell (rbc) fraction is used for culturing Plasmodium parasites (sexual and asexual) by the Parasite Core facility and for feeding mosquitoes.

An alternative commercial source for RBCs is Interstate Companies that provide a variety of blood-related products.

We strive to provide high quality services, and appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
